FSS has ‘Gone Green’ with St. Pat’s Day bash March 17!

03.11.10

Irish luck has its benefits, and will abound at the St. Patrick’s Day Bash happening 6 – 11 p.m. March 17 at the Sports Lounge.
Along with a special menu for the night of corned beef and cabbage, green drafts for $2 and great music, karaoke and dancing will be a lot of games and prizes!
This event is also the kickoff event of the Club Membership Drive that began March 1st.
“As part of this event, if you sign up for the Club that night, you will get 6 months free dues,” said Sylvia Bowles, Tyndall Clubs manager. “The Air Force is giving away three months free dues, but we are adding on three extra for our club members. As always, if you are the rank of E-1 through E-4 or and O-1, you will get an entire year of free dues. “
She added, “ If you are already a club member, and you invite a non-member friend and they sign up, you get three months free dues for the referral. Check your March Leisure Guide for your referral card.”
Also, as part of this promotion, each club member who comes will be put into a drawing for $100, and each new club member who signs up will be put into a separate drawing for $100.
“We have so many prizes to give away at the Gone Green event, chances are good that you will walk out with something,” said Sandy North, 325th Force Support Community Liaison.
Food gift certificates from a local bagel shop, certificates for free greens fee and cart from Pelican Point, tanning gift certificates are up for grabs as door prizes at the party.
The big competitions of the night will be Sing for Your Supper Karaoke from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. and the Irish Jig competition at 9 p.m. In the sing for your supper karaoke, people can sing a karaoke song, and get $1 towards the night’s dinner special of corned beef and cabbage, or a green draft, only once per person. In the Irish Jig competition, participants will compete by popularity for a 2-night stay with dinner and breakfast at IP Casino in Biloxi.
There will also be a chance to win prizes during games happening throughout the evening, such as:
The Green With Envy game where everyone who comes in gets $1 to use towards a green daft beer, or put in the pot to try and win $100.
The Lucky Clover Match game where everyone who comes through the door gets a half of a clover, and when they find their match in the crowd, they win a prize.
Then there is the Kiss the Blarney Stone game, where a kiss on the stone gets participants an entrance into a drawing for a prize!
This is an adult only event. More information on the event can be found at www.325fss.com.
“People can come, relax and watch the fun, or they can participate in the craziness – it is up to them!” Mrs. Bowles said. “For sure there will be enough to keep you entertained throughout the night.”

Key Spouse program provides liaison for Tyndal families

03.10.10

by Tech. Sgt. Carissa Lee
325 Fighter Wing Public Affairs

3/8/2010 - TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. — This year has been named the Year of the Air Force Family and the Key Spouse Program is just one of several programs that are highly recommended to support the campaign. This program is considered a link for First Sergeants and commanders to stay connected with their Airmen’s families.

Twelve Key Spouses recently graduated from the program in February during a Heart Link seminar. One of the new Key Spouses, Jennifer Ford, said the program has been invaluable and very informative. “I’ve been associated with the Air Force for more than 10 years, and learned more in the Key Spouse training than I ever knew,” she said.

The Key Spouse program provides a vital link for spouses to get information or help directly from a fellow spouse, and has the highest support from wing leadership.

“I highly encourage spouses to consider becoming involved in this vital program,” said Col. James Browne, 325th Fighter Wing commander. “It’s getting the information directly from a ‘peer,’ something I understand many people would feel more comfortable with,” he said. “It provides a network of connections to invaluable information…something essential not only during a deployment, but anytime a question or concern comes up.”

Dusty L. Bailey, spouse to an Airman First Class Darius Bailey, F-15 Crew Chief, has been a member of the 325th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron Key Spouse Program for nine months. She has high hopes for the program.

“We really want to help spouses get to know each other, so they do not feel alone,” Mrs. Bailey said. “Whether it is a listening ear or maybe a ride somewhere, whatever they need, we will be there to help.”

As the program develops, Mrs. Bailey would like to focus on helping families in need and hosting outings with the spouses.

For a lot of spouses, Tyndall Air Force Base is far from home and their families. Mrs. Bailey believes the program is a helpful resource for spouses who are homesick.

“The program helps boost morale of the spouses,” Mrs. Bailey said. “It helps them feel more comfortable and make an easier adjustment to their new surroundings.”

With the recent graduation, the number of Tyndall Key Spouses has grown to more than 30, but there’s always room for more.

For those interested in learning more about the Key Spouse Program, please call the Airman Family and Readiness Center at (850) 283-4204.

Members of the first place team, TSgt. Chad Tenpenny, Maj. Viet Nguyen and 1st Lt. Sarah O’Crowley, do jumping jacks as part of the par course, a circuit training exercise. Participants also had a rock wall climb, which was 15 minutes to test their strength and agility. The rock wall and a ropes course is available to use through Bonita Bay.

Two individuals and three groups may have won prizes in the fitness challenge held by the Tyndall Fitness Center, but everyone got something out of it – good health practices.
The Tyndall Fitness Center held a personal challenge and a wingman challenge for eight weeks, from Jan. 11 to March 5. It yielded a total of 156 participants from squadrons all over the base, 80 people formed teams of two or four, and 76 individuals competed for prize packages.
The competition was based on a points-system; as participants racked up points by going to Fitness Center or Health and Wellness Center classes, special fitness events, weigh-ins, extreme challenges and an eight-week food log.
Individual competitors were split into male and female categories and separately competed for a grand prize of an all day boat rental from Bonita Bay, a waterfront cabin on the bay at Fam Camp, four games of Bowling at Raptor Lanes, and a one night stay at a resort in Panama City Beach.
”This challenge has really re-motivated me to achieve better health and conditioning. For me it wasn’t about weight loss, it was about better overall health,” said Terrence Jacobs from AF NORTH who won first place prize for the men. “Thank you to the fitness center for all the programs and motivation.”
Groups competed for first through third place prizes of 1,000, 750, and 500 FSS Bucks good toward any FSS Facility including boat rentals at Bonita Bay, and any of the food establishments.
“It was a quick jump start for me to help with weight-loss, the fitness staff was very encouraging. I wasn’t worried about the prizes in the beginning but half way through, when I found out what they were, I was pretty excited,” said Chasity Sansom from the Youth Center, who won first place in the women’s individual challenge.
“This was a great team building opportunity for the Intel flight and we were able to use it along with fulfilling our physical training requirements while building morale. We will be using the prize within our whole flight so it will be good for morale as well!” said 1st Lt. Sarah O’Crowley, part of the 325th Operations Group Intelligence Flight who won first place out of the 25 teams who participated.
“We are so proud of our participants, we hope to see their smiling faces in the Fitness Center on a regular basis!” said Jennifer Danford, recreation assistant from the Fitness Center. “Parts of our challenge, such as the rock wall climb and the ropes course are available for individuals and groups to use, just get in touch with us.”
