Youth Center


Youth Programs (YP) provides activities and programs that improve and maintain the physical and mental well-being of youth ages 6 to 18. The YP facility has a full sized gym; teen room; pre-teen room; computer room; snack bar; and school-age rooms. We also have an outdoor play area; basketball court; four baseball fields; skateboard park; tennis courts; obstacle course; and soccer field. Youth Programs in affiliation with Boys & Girls Club promotes the five core areas of character and leadership; education and career; health and life skills; the arts; and sports, fitness, and recreation.

Membership

Youth, ages 9 to 18 are eligible to purchase an annual membership (children ages 6-8 must be accompanied by a parent or sibling over 16 years of age unless they are participating in an organized, supervised activity.) The annual fee is $30 per youth and is pro-rated quarterly. All memberships expire annually on September 30. With each membership, youth receive a membership card.

As per AFI 34-249, participation in youth programs is limited to youth up to 18 years old. Children 5 years of age and under are allowed to participate only in those activities organized specifically for their group. Family members of active duty, retired military, DoD, and NAF Civilian personnel are allowed to participate in programs and activities.

Parents must complete an AF Form 88, Youth Programs Application, whether their child is participating as a member or non-member.

School-age Program (SAP)

The School-age Program at Tyndall offers before and after school care. Enrichment activities are provided in an open and fun atmosphere. Activities include: Arts & crafts, computers, drama, outdoor recreation, and more. Homework assistance is offered daily. The program is accredited through the national After-School Association (NAA) and is available to you ages K-12 years of age. The staff is highly qualified, enthusiastic and committed to providing a safe, healthy and nurturing environment to meet the individual developmental needs of children. Participants are provided USDA approved meals and snacks. Transportation is provided to and from Tyndall Elementary School. You may choose to enroll in the before school, after school, or before and after school sessions.

(SAP) Registration Information

The following documents are needed from parents/guardians in order to be registered:

  • AF Form 1181, AF Youth Program Patron Registration
  • AF Form 357 (if single parent or dual military)
  • DD Form 2652, Application for DoD Child Care Fees
  • Current Shot Record
  • Copy of most current LES and/or pay stubs
  • Release Forms
  • Signed SAP Parent Information and Contract Form

Fit Factor

The FitFactor website is: www.afgetfit.com

FitFactor encourages physical activity, healthy eating selections, and rewards youth between the ages of 9-18 for their efforts. Family members of youth members are also able to join and share a healthy lifestyle with their youth.

Being healthy and fit puts youth in touch with their bodies, increases self-esteem and helps establish the desire to set personal goals. FitFactor is an exciting web-based program that rewards youth for being active and healthy choices every day. There are 5 exciting levels for youth to complete and youth receive great prizes as they complete each level.

This program is open to Youth Programs members only and is FREE. Just stop by with a parent or guardian to register. Call Youth Programs at 283-4326 for more information.

Leadership

If you are interested in being involved in Torch or Keystone Club and would like more information, call Youth Programs at 283-4326 and talk to Ms. Sofia.

  • Torch Club for youth ages 9-13. Meetings held..

Congressional Awards Program

Those who are 13 ½ up to 23 years of age are invited to learn about the Congressional Awards Program at the Youth Center. The program consists of setting goals in the areas of voluntary public service, outdoor exploration, personal development and physical fitness. Bronze, silver and gold medals are earned by each participant and are awarded by a member of congress. For more info regarding the program, contact Youth Programs at 283-4326.

Youth Employment Skills (YES) Program

Do you want to earn money for college, learn a valuable job skill and have a great time doing it? Then you need to sign up for the YES Program. This program is sponsored by the Air Force Aide Society and Air Force Services is an on-base volunteer program for high school age family members of active duty personnel. The program offers students an opportunity to learn valuable work skills, "bank" dollar credits toward post-secondary education, and have a positive impact on their base community. Students can "bank" $4 in grant funding for every hour volunteered in an on-base function. Students may accumulate as much as 250 hours over all 4 years of high school, combined, for a potential maximum of $1000 toward their future vo-tech or academic endeavors. Instructional Classes

Instructional classes such as piano, dance, and karate are offered for a nominal fee. Contact Youth Programs for classes and available dates and times.
